Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since that period of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
